October 2022

Newsletter

Dear friends, welcome to my newsletter for October – so this month:

I'm having an exhibition at the Paxton Centre with the South London Women Artists organization, of which I am the acting chair. It's an interesting, eclectic group of women visual artists from all over South London stretching out into Croydon, Camberwell, Lambeth, Southwark, Brockley, Bromley, and Sydenham.

Welcome to our exhibition at the Paxton Centre, 52 Anerley Hill, London SE19 2AE. The centre is in Crystal Palace near the famous park full of dinosaurs and one of the very first railway stations built by the Victorians, which is stunning and a must-see if you're coming to the Paxton Centre and Crystal Place for the first time.

The train station is across the road and on the Overground and National Rail line.

The exhibition explores reflecting light, both a negative and a positive, with the idea that everyone reflects light. We've been going through challenging times since 2010 since the austerity, and the 2008 financial crash, of which the tailback effect of this never-ending car crash keeps going, but we are resilient and keep going. So come, celebrate and meet the South London Women artists at the exhibition on the 7th of October at the private view. I'll be there from 7 pm till 10 pm. If you can't make opening night, the exhibition hours are 10 am until 5 pm every day until the 31st of October, so you're more than welcome to pop in another time. Unfortunately, I don't know what other dates I will be there, but do feel free to pop in, have a coffee, and peruse around.

Southwark News kindly did a write-up of our upcoming exhibition here.

Next on my agenda is an exhibition that will open on the 10th of November 2022 at the Bookery Gallery 20 Church Street, London NW8 8EP off Edgware Road. The show, called 'These Momentous Times,' runs from Thursday, 10th of November until Thursday, 12th of January 2023.

Speaking of presents to take home, most of you know I make aprons, cushions, and tea towels. As with everything, the printing costs will go up, so if you want bespoke presents to give to your family and friends, please get your orders in as soon as possible. I can do 50% upfront 50% pay later. Remember: everything is printed on demand; you will be getting a quirky item which I am happy to sign as long as it goes through me first. I provide certificates of authenticity for all prints.

If you want any of the above, please contact me as soon as possible. My faux suede cushions are double-sided and are original photographs I took in Kew Gardens. I also have an apron inspired by another photo from Kew – pictured here. Bring some unique Art to your home this Autumn.

If you are interested in buying a print, please get in touch.

This month I'm having my cat paintings photographed so they can be turned into prints and will be available from the 1st of December.

Many of you have told me how much you love my cat paintings - and I have a dilemma. I want to ask you, the customer, what do you prefer? Is it a high-quality print that will last 400 years, signed and certificated by the artist? Or do you want a less expensive digital laser print poster? Do you prefer a canvas in resin that you can hang straight on your wall? Please reply to this email today to let me know.

Of course, I have my Heygate resin printed canvas which was on show in Peckham recently. For those of you who didn't see it at Made in Peckham, here is my photomontage of the Heygate Estate that stood at the Elephant and Castle SE1; it's a framed, limited edition, resin-coated canvas print, size 46.5 x 67cm (£195) and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

I will also be on show at the Bethlehem Christmas Fair with my cards and tea towels. Some of my cards will also be available at the Paxton Centre during the exhibition, so don't forget to pop in.

If you can’t make it in person, I also now have an Etsy and Saatchi Art shop.

Many thanks, Michelle Baharier
